It is no surprise that money is a hot topic in songs we see hitting the charts every year. America’s obsession with wealth and “bling” bleed through to all forms of entertainment. As you can tell from my list I am sucker for some of the older tunes, but it also goes to show you that gangster rappers aren’t the only ones rhyming about money. I thought it would be fun to compile a list of songs about money so here they are in my own illogical order (the links will open in iTunes):

I love the song “Money” by Michael Jackson
it is so cool and I don’t know why!?
I probably missed Michael so much *sob*
Well, #10 & #11 & #6 are my favorites, but also…
Hall & Oates “She’s a Rich Girl”.
One of my fave’s is “Puttin on The Ritz”! Money is a large part of entertainment culture because it’s all about glitz and glamor. Also, most forms of entertainment are an escape and chance to imagine what it would be like to live a life richer than your own.
How could you forget Liza Minnelli – “Money makes the world go ’round, that clinky clanky sound!”
Or am I showing my age? 🙂
Cool. Once you get past the obvious Pink Floyd reference, the list gets fun. 🙂
Easy Money. Billy Joel
😉
How the hell could you forget C.R.E.A.M. by Wu Tang Clan? If that’s not a song about money, I don’t know what is.
Fffffffffffffffffffuunny
How could you miss “It’s Money That Matters” by Randy Newman. Love that song.
Billionaire by Travie McCoy ft. Bruno Mars
Taxman by the Beatles
You’ve missed James Taylor’s Money Machine.
Not to mention Cindi Lauper’s Money Changes Everything and Alan Parsons Project’s Money Talks. Still after love, money must be the song writer’s favourite subject.
Marilyn Monroe’s Diamonds are a girls best friend. That would be good here.
What about the O’Jays – For the Love of Money probably the all time Favorite
I’m looking for a positive song about money. It’s from the late 1990’s or early 2000’s that I heard in Montreal, Canada. Does anyone remember it?
